They wanted to visually represent part of the data they provide, preferably with an energy and maritime focus, in a captivating way. I used two datasets from their “Energy Transition Outlook” to show the change in energy consumption between 2000 and 2050, and the projected maritime energy demand over the same period as a spiral with time flowing outward and the density of certain colors representing the different energy sources.

The Essence of Us

“The Essence of Us” is a subtly moving data art piece that asks the question “What defines Human Culture?” through the lens of the 5000+ exoplanets that have been discovered since the first in 1992. Data about the exoplanets is mapped to every visual aspect that you see. Earth, Us, is symbolically placed us in the center, and every spiral around it is one exoplanet. My intent was to create a slowly moving piece that you can stare into and wonder about that initial question, what defines human culture as a whole? This piece is still available for sale

Coiling Curves

“Coiling Curves” is a small collection of three artworks sold digitally and two turned into high quality wooden jigsaw puzzles. These pieces came from a tangent of one of my many spirograph base explorations. These take the spirograph paths and turn them into chunky, vibrant loops that weave into each other.

As yet another exploration of spirographs, I looked into making some “chunky” spirographs (using a vibrant color palette). The chunky-ness of the results didn’t turn each output from the algorithm into a visually beautiful result. However, when “all the stars aligned” it had some amazing results! I therefore knew I wanted to turn this into a tiny set of less than 10 pieces that I would manually pick (from hundreds of outputs). Finally, three Coiling Curves were sold as some of my first NFTs on Foundation in the summer of 2021. You can see them here: #1, #2 & #3.

Twistings / Curated

A generative art collection of seven pieces that I meticulously hand-picked from over 1000 outputs of the “Twistings” algorithm, which explores the beauty & variety that is hidden within the simple math of Archimedean spirals. All seven works use slightly different mathematical settings of the spiral formulas, fine-tuned to reveal the circular entity it represents: Drops, Circles, Fireworks, Flowers, Roses, Spirals & Twisters.

Twistings / Explore

“Twistings” is a generative art collection of 256 pieces that was released on fxhash. It explores the beauty & variety that is hidden within the simple math of Archimedean spirals. Each piece in the collection is created from the same underlying spiral-based algorithm.
